I went to the doctor abot stomach problems about 3 weeks ago. Since the doctor couldn't exactly figure out what was going wrong she order lab work blood test, urine test, and a sample of my stool. I (of course) lost the paper work and went back in to see my doctor. This time complain of painful cramping in my stomach. My doctor gave me medicine for the treatment of ibs and did not tell me that was my problem. (Maybe she's still not sure) I found out on my own what I have (ibs) and am waiting for the doctor to tell me her opinion. I have all of the horribele symptoms of ibs. I have massively changed my diet and I exercise now. I still smoke. Is that affecting it? How long will I have to live with this I'm only 19!

I only smoked for a year and a half but its been 5 days scince my last cig. I got online to find out if this was normal. My severe stomache cramps and hunger pains are overwelming, I never get full. What was those little pills you took to help?

Has anyone here had IBS before they quit smoking? I've read articles that say smoking makes the IBS worse, but from the blogs I've read here most people are saying that they have more problems with IBS since quitting. I've smoked for 5 years and have had problems with IBS for a year now, from taking a strong antibiotic.. I live on laxatives now 1/2 the time, so i guess the question is.. Have any of you quit smoking and the IBS wasn't as bad eventuualllllyy...????

Hi! I just would like to share my withdrawal symptoms from quitting smoking-cold turkey. I'm a 1-pack/day smoker for 20+ years and decided to quit. I'm 3 months w/o smokes now and honestly it wasn't a smooth journey. My physical symptoms include shortness of breath, mild palpitations, sweating, chest tightening, back pains and fatigue plus the mental anxieties that comes with it which I'm still experiencing now from time to time (after 3 months quitting). Sometimes it makes me feel that my quitting could have been too late as too much damage had already been done to my lungs, heart etc. I'm suppose to be relieved of these things by this time. I really hope I will recover fully. Is anyone having the same troubles as I'm having?

Regards,
Jacko

I'm now finishing up day 8 of my quit smoking. did this before, cold turkey, stayed off for 12 yrs. then started again...i know, not smart. anyway, this has been really much harder. I wake up feeling like I can't move! am chewing the gum and that helps. also some IBS happening. depression, irritability, mood swings...etc. afraid of getting adicted to the gum!! thanks for reading this.

Hi guys,

Just to say I used to smoke and used to suffer badly with IBS. I packed in 5 days ago and my word am I suffering. Couldn't go the loo for 3 days, had to take laxatives, yesterday couldn't stop going the loo and now have got the most horrid pains and my IBS is terrible!
I am on patches and doing a hypnosis CD before bed each night and although the smoking cravings are subsiding my IBS pain seems to be getting worse!

Hi board, Just decided to comment, i packed in smoking 23 days ago but the first 2 wks was headaches and constipation, i felt fat, bloated, and dirty till i doused my innards with laxatives, now i feel better but my advise would be to at least switch to wholemeal bread and drink water. Regards Dawn

Hi Sarah, I know its been a couple of yrs since you wrote to this site but I just wanted to tell you I tried cold turkey 10 yrs ago, never again, too difficult. Tried patches, stopped smoking for 5 wks but was allergic to them so had to stop, then tried inhalator, no good as I think you are just prolonging the inevitable. Now on Champix, off ciggies for 24 days, still get odd cravings sometimes, cleaned house top to bottom, almost to rid of smell of nicotine, but not as bad as withdrawal on patches. Dawn

Hi,

I\'ve been quit for almost a year now but still using the patch and the nicotine gum. In October - six months after my quit - I started feeling my heart beat in my chest all the time. It\'s not a rapid heartbeat, but I can feel it. I had an EKG, and it came back irregular. Have to get more tests done, but wondering if this could be from Patch/Gum . . .?
